<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display of high efficiency and high definition which utilizes a phosphor comprising quantum dots. <P>SOLUTION: A phosphor comprising quantum dots is sealed in a phosphor layer 312. An LED light source 320 radiates light. The light radiated by the LED light source 320 is made incident on the phosphor layer 312. At this time, a spectrum of the incident light is changed by the phosphor. A part of the light of which the spectrum has been changed is emitted from a display surface of a liquid crystal panel 210.
