The present application relates to an LRH-1 agonist for use in the prevention of progressive loss of pancreatic ß-cells. It also relates to an LRH-1 agonist for use in the preservation or restoration of pancreatic ß-cells. Further, it relates to an LRH-1 agonist for use in the prevention or treatment of type I diabetes, the increment of survival of pancreatic ß-cells, the increment of the performance of pancreatic ß-cells, the increment of the survival of a ß-cell graft, the in vitro preservation of pancreatic ß-cells, maintaining insulin secretion and/or in a method of transplanting pancreatic islet cells.
