The invention relates to a component and a method for deaerating a process water. An effective quantity of a component having the following structure A-(XO)n-B is added to the process water. Said component is the addition product of XO selected from the group containing ethylene oxide (EO) and/or propylene oxide (PO), n being between 1 and 10, on a linear saturated alkyl alcohol A selected from the group containing stearyl alcohol, arachidyl alcohol, behenyl alcohol or a mixture of said alcohols, and esterified with a linear saturated carboxylic acid B selected from the group containing stearic acid, arachic acid, behenic acid or a mixture of said carboxylic acids.
