327,760. Wates, F. S. S. April 9, 1929. Electrodes; connections.-A Leclanche cell is provided with a zinc electrode which is wrapped round the depolarizing electrode but separated therefrom bv an absorbent material to form a single unit which can be removed and replaced when exhausted. The zinc electrode is provided with an integral lug for connection to the carbon of an adjacent cell. Fig. 5 shows a unit comprising a zinc electrode f surrounding the carbon dolly but separated therefrom by a paper wrapping h which may be provided with punched-up projections d. The zinc electrode is provided with an integral lug g<1> having an aperture f<3> for a tapping and a hole f<2> for making connection with a snap fastening b<1> on the carbon of an adjacent cell as described in Specification 326,822. A cork g surrounds the carbon and closes the aperture of the outer container. The zinc electrode may be painted with a non-corrosive paint at the electrolyte level and it may be separated from the carbon electrode by rubber bands &c. instead of absorbent material. |
