Electrodes; connections to carbons.-A machine for wrapping the dollies of dry batteries is provided also with a device for applying the metal contact caps to the carbon rods. The dollies with the wrappers loosely applied are passed through the machine in a conveyer 1. Each dolly is held first between two chucks 6 and is wound with thread from a roll of yarn 5. The dollv is then moved until it reaches the chuck 10 where its lower end is paraffined by a cylinder 7 supplied by a container 8. The lower end of the wrapper is pressed by an arm 9 and held in position by the paraffin. The upper end of the wrapper is pressed round the carbon rod by a stamper 12 after which the dolly is smoothed by a cylinder 13 and paraffin is applied to the upper part of the dolly by means of a brush and a paraffin container 14. The capping device is shown in Fig. 2 and comprises a cap feeding device 17 which may be of the kind described in Specification 337,550, which supplies caps through a channel 18 to the interior of the stamper 12. A reciprocating shaft 19 in the stamper forces the caps on to the carbon rods at the same time as the stamper presses the top 11 of the wrapper into position. In order to prevent a cap passing from the channel 18 into the stamper 12 when no dolly is in position a slider 29 is provided which normally closes the lower open end of the channel 18. The slider is opened by a prong 31 when a dolly comes into contact therewith on its way to the stamper 12. |
