PURPOSE: A retarder for an image display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to prevent defects due to shaking of a base film in irradiating polarized UV light. CONSTITUTION: An alignment film(112) is formed on a base film(110). The alignment film includes first and second domains. A liquid crystal film is formed on the alignment film. An adhesion layer(114) is formed on the lower part of the base film. A protective film(116) is formed on the lower part of the adhesion layer. A masking pattern(118) is formed on the top or the bottom of the protective film. |
