摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous electrode base material which has high sheet strength, can be manufactured at a low cost, and has sufficient gas permeability and electrical conductivity, and a method for manufacturing the porous electrode base material. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the porous electrode base material comprises steps of manufacturing a precursor sheet in which carbon short fibers (A) and at least one type of oxidized fiber precursor short fibers (b) and/or at least one type of fibril-like oxidized fiber precursor fibers (b') are dispersed in a two-dimensional plane, applying entangling treatment to the precursor sheet to form a three-dimensionally entangled structure, impregnating the precursor sheet with carbon powder, impregnating the precursor sheet with a fluorine-based resin, molding the precursor sheet by heating and pressurizing at a temperature lower than 200&deg;C, and heating the precursor sheet at a temperature of 150&deg;C or higher and lower than 400&deg;C. The porous electrode base material comprises a three-dimensionally entangled structure in which the carbon short fibers (A) dispersed in the three-dimensional structure and the carbon powder are joined with the oxidized fibers (B), and the carbon short fibers (A), the carbon powder, and the oxidized fibers (B) are coated with the fluorine-based resin. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
