The device has a wind sensor (6) attached to adjustable support arms (4) and mounted in proximity to a covering (5) of awning and motor-driven sun protection devices. The sensor directly detects and evaluates wind force acting on the covering. An operating mechanism of the sensor is activated, and generates a signal when the covering is exposed to strong winds. The sensor is returned to an idle state after decline of the signal. The wind sensor is designed in form of an electrical switch and operated during an action of the wind on the covering.
