<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device capable of simultaneously improving reproductivity at a thin line portion such as a character etc. and smoothing an image at a non-character portion such as dots. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing device comprises: a line sensor unit composed of a plurality of line sensors; an image memory unit for storing a plurality of line sensor output signals read by the line sensor unit in a pixel unit; a pixel array generation unit which generates, as the unit of image processing, a pixel array constituted in a plurality of processing ranges including pixels in consideration from the image memory unit; a standard deviation calculation unit for obtaining the standard deviation of the processing ranges; a standard deviation difference calculation unit for obtaining the difference value of the standard deviation between the processing ranges; a maximum value and minimum value extraction unit for obtaining the maximum value and minimum value of the difference value of the standard deviation; a standard deviation non-character determination unit for determining whether the pixels in consideration are a non-character or not from the difference value between the maximum value and the minimum value; a smoothing processing unit for smoothing the pixels in consideration; and a character emphasizing processing unit for emphasizing an edge. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
