<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new lignin which is especially high in reactivity to develop the useful application of the lignin, and to provide a new method for treating lignocellulose by which the lignin can preferably be obtained. <P>SOLUTION: A method for producing lignin includes subjecting roughly crushed and/or ground lignocellulose to the first saccharification step for removing saccharides with a polysaccharolytic enzyme, grinding the obtained residues, and then subjecting the product to the second saccharification step for removing saccharides with a polysaccharolytic enzyme, and a composition is obtained by the method. In the method for producing the lignin, the grinding processing uses a kneader, a refiner, or the like, and the composition is obtained by the method.
