<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition coil for an internal combustion engine which prevents water from easily intruding into a water retention chamber and easily discharges water accumulated in the water retention chamber. <P>SOLUTION: An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine 1 includes a cylinder part 2 and a head part 4. A column part 44, forming a part of a ventilation passage which connects the interior of plug holes with the exterior of the plug holes through pieces of seal rubber 6, and a cover part 5 covering the column part 44 are provided on a side surface of the head part 4. The cover part 5 has a peripheral wall 55 covering the column part 44 in the upside and peripheral direction, a lower wall 51 covering a lower side of the peripheral wall 55, a water retention chamber 50 which is a space enclosed by the peripheral wall 55 and the lower wall 51, and communication holes 52 provided at the lower wall 51.
