A process for the preparation of 7-R-3,5-dioxo-1,2,6,7-tetrahydroimidazo-[1,5-c]pyrimidin-8-carboxylic acid ethyl esters consists in that ethyl esters of 6-aminomethyl-4-R-3,4-dihydro-2-oxo-1H-pyrimidin-5carboxylic acids are subjected to interaction with bis(trichloromethyl)carbonate in dichloromethane in the presence of triethylamine at room temperature with further boiling followed by separation of desired products by conventional methods.
