A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a positive electrode (11) containing a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode (12) containing a negative electrode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution (14) in which a solute is dissolved in a non-aqueous solvent. The positive electrode active material is obtained by sintering a titanium-containing oxide on a surface of a layered lithium-containing transition metal oxide represented by the general formula Li1+xNiaMnbCocO2+d, where x, a, b, c, and d satisfy the conditions x+a+b+c=1, 0.7≰a+b, 0<x≰0.1, 0≰c/(a+b)<0.35, 0.7≰a/b≰2.0, and−0.1≰d≰0.1.
