The present invention relates to the composition of a seawater-based polymeric fluid as continuous phase for petroleum-well drilling, which is characterized in that it comprises, per cubic metre of fluid: seawater as continuous phase in an amount of 957.7 L; soda ash in an amount of 1.0 kg, as calcium sequestrant; caustic soda in an amount of 2.0 kg as alkalinizing element, pH controller and magnesium precipitator; regular-grade polyanionic cellulose in an amount of 4.0 kg as filtrate reducer; high-quality xanthan gum in an amount of 6.0 kg as viscosifying agent to generate excellent transportation and suspension in the fluid, thereby enhancing cleanliness; glycols in an amount of 8.0 kg as lutite inhibitor; and potassium chloride in an amount of 10.0 kg as clay inhibitor.
