Sask30446 polynucleotide or polypeptide in a sample of the subject, wherein detection of the Brachyspira sp. Sask30446 polynucleotide or polypeptide is indicative of the presence Brachyspira sp. Sask30446 and/or that the subject has colitis or has an increased risk of developing colitis.</p>
