<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of making a heterogeneous catalyst for at least one reaction selected from aldol condensation, dehydration, dimerization, reduction, oxidation, alkylation, etherification, esterification, and hydrogenation. <P>SOLUTION: The method of making the heterogeneous catalyst includes: mixing a dried ion exchange resin with a solution of a ketone and metal; swelling the ion exchange resin; distributing the metal in the resin; and transforming, without using reducing agents, the metal to zero valent at a temperature below 120°C.
