<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera that increases an accuracy of determining opening and closing of eyes. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic camera comprises an imaging unit, a face detecting unit, a first determining unit, a correcting unit, an estimating unit, and a second determining unit. The imaging unit images a subject image to generate an image. The face detecting unit detects a face in the image, and sets in the image a first region including the face. The first determining unit extracts from the first region a face partial region and the other partial regions, and determines whether or not the face partial region has a positional shift with respect to the first region. When the face partial region has a positional shift, the correcting unit corrects the positional shift by changing the position of the first region. After the positional shift is corrected by the correcting unit, the estimating unit estimates the position of a second region surrounding the positions of eyes.
