PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated material handling systems (AMHS) with high efficiency.

SOLUTION: An automated material handling system (AMHS) comprises a plurality of storage containers. Each storage container comprises: at least one storage unit which holds at least one unit of a material; and at least one overhead hoist. The overhead hoist is provided with an overhead hoist conveyance subsystem which can access directly to at least one material unit in one storage container selected from a plurality of the storage containers to make conveyance to a predetermined position.
