<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with a wide viewing angle and high transmittance. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is structured to comprise at least one alignment device and a liquid crystal layer. The alignment device makes liquid crystal molecules form continuous-domain or multi-domain alignment within a display area, whereby a wide viewing angle is achieved. The liquid crystal layer comprises a nematic liquid crystal material having a chiral agent added thereto, and optimal conditions of Δnd and d/p of liquid crystal are searched out, whereby a structure of liquid crystal molecules aligned in respective directions achieves high transmittance.
