<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical control element which has a self-holding function, allows high-speed switching, and hardly produces element degradation due to switching. <P>SOLUTION: The optical control element is formed partly or entirely of a metal magnetic artificial lattice constructed by alternately stacking a ferromagnetic metal layer and a non-magnetic metal layer, and includes a microscopic metal structure which shows resonance scattering with surface plasmons having a unique vibration frequency dependent on optical properties and the shape of the metal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
