PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin that has a high refractive index and can be easily made compatible with an aqueous solvent.

SOLUTION: The polyester resin includes (A) a polyol component containing 50 mol% or more of (A1) a specific fluorene compound and (B) a carboxylic acid component and is produced by bonding a carboxyl group derived from (C) a carboxylic acid anhydride to a molecular terminal. Preferably, the polyester resin has a number average molecular weight of 300-10,000 and an acid value of 10-100 mgKOH/g.
