The device has a moving element arranged in an entry region of a compressor (1) for adjustably covering a portion of a front side outflow surface at an external periphery of a running wheel (5) of the compressor. An entire outflow region is released by adjusting movement of the moving element. The moving element is formed as a cone (3) arranged at an inner wall of a housing (2), where the cone is tapered in a flow direction, and the moving element is partially resilient. An angle (alpha) of the cone is variable in the range of 0 to 45 degrees, where the cone is fillable by medium. An independent claim is also included for a method for stabilizing characteristic diagram of a compressor.
