PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition and functional food composition containing organic solvent extract of Opuntia humifusa is provided to induce cancer cell apoptosis and to prevent or treat cervical cancer. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cervical cancer contains 0.0001-90 wt% of organic solvent extract of Opuntia humifusa as an active ingredient. The organic solvent is hexane or ethyl acetate. A functional health food composition for preventing or treating cervical cancer contains the organic solvent extract as an active ingredient. The extract is isolated from Opuntia humifusa fruits, seeds, stems, and roots. The composition is manufactured in the form of powder, granules, tablets, capsules, injection, cream, gel, patch, spray, or ointment.
