A fuel cell system includes: a fuel cell; a power storage unit for storing power generated by the fuel cell; a tank for storing a fuel to be supplied to the fuel cell; a remaining fuel sensor for detecting the amount of fuel remaining in the tank; an SOC detector for detecting the state of charge of the power storage unit; and a control unit for controlling the operation of the fuel cell. (i) When the remaining amount of fuel is larger than a predetermined value A, the control unit is configured to perform: (a) an operation for stopping the power generation of the fuel cell or an operation for decreasing the amount of power generated if the state of charge is equal to or more than a predetermined value X; and (b) an operation for starting the power generation of the fuel cell or an operation for increasing the amount of power generated if the state of charge is equal to or less than a predetermined value Y where Y<X. (ii) When the remaining amount of fuel is equal to or less than the predetermined value A, the control unit is configured to perform (c) an operation for stopping the power generation of the fuel cell or an operation for decreasing the amount of power generated such that the state of charge is less than the predetermined value Y. |
