The magnet (1) has an actuator (22) that is moved along a movement axis (21) by permanent magnets (8). A housing (2) comprises an anchor counterpart (28) in which an auxiliary counterpart (33) is movably arranged. The housing, anchor counterpart and the auxiliary counterpart are magnetically polarized in an energized state by an electric coil (11). The actuator is defined by the permanent magnets in a front-end region (5) of the housing at the auxiliary counterpart or a rear-end region (6) of the housing. A helical spring (27) is stressed between the actuator and the housing. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating bistable lifting magnets (2) a method for monitoring bistable lifting magnets.
