The stereoscopic image capture device (10) comprises a single photographic optical assembly and a single image capture element (100), which receives light that passes through a photographic lens assembly. The photographic optical assembly further comprises a photographic lens assembly (12) and an aperture stop (16). The image capture element (100) further comprises two types of pixel groups that are positioned in a mixture in the same plane, and which receive light that passes through different pupil zones of the photographic optical assembly. Pixels belonging to the two types of pixel groups are arrayed two-dimensionally in a horizontal direction X and a vertical direction Y that is orthogonal to the horizontal direction X in the same plane. A liquid crystal shutter (15) is further provided, said liquid crystal shutter (15) shuttering a portion of an aperture (16a) of the aperture stop (16) and restricting the light that reaches the image capture element (100) when capturing stereoscopic images in 3-D mode. The liquid crystal shutter (15) shutters a portion of the aperture (16a) of the aperture stop (16) such that the aperture (16a) as seen from the image capture element (100) is divided into two equal parts in the horizontal direction X.</p>
