PURPOSE: An arc detection apparatus which uses an optical sensor and an arc detection method thereof are provided to precisely detect an arc signal without a circuit connection with a distribution board. CONSTITUTION: An arc detection apparatus which uses an optical sensor comprises an optical sensor(101) and an arc management part(102). The optical sensor senses light generated in a distribution board. The arc management part determines an arc signal generation state within the distribution board based on a detection result from the optical sensor. The arc management part manages a history of arc signal generation.
