PURPOSE: A distribution line disconnection detecting apparatus and a method thereof are provided to detect an impact generated in an electric pole, thereby detecting a wire disconnection accident by comparing with an impact signal of an adjacent electric pole. CONSTITUTION: A wire disconnection detection apparatus comprises a sensor part(110), a wire disconnection accident detection part(120), a control part(130), and a communication part(140). The sensor part is directly installed in an electric pole and detects an impact transferred to the electric pole when a wire disconnection accident is generated. The communication part receives wire disconnection detection data of the wire disconnection detection apparatus installed in other adjacent electric pole. The wire disconnection accident is determined by comparing the wire disconnection detection data of the wire disconnection detection apparatus and the wire disconnection detection data of the sensor part. The control part transmits the wire disconnection detection data generated by the wire disconnection accident detection part to a power distribution data system.
