Device (1) for heat treatment of a prolonged material (2) made of steel comprises: an induction unit exhibiting an inductor for heating the prolonged material and a coolant spray associated with the inductor for cooling the prolonged material; and a holding device, in which the prolonged material is fixed, where the holding device comprises at least two receivers (4) arranged in its longitudinal direction. The receivers are arranged on a plate (3), and the prolonged material is supported using the gravitational force, and fixed at least in a direction running parallel to the plate. Device (1) for heat treatment of a prolonged material (2) made of steel comprises: an induction unit, which exhibits an inductor for heating the prolonged material and a coolant spray associated with the inductor for cooling the prolonged material; and a holding device, in which the prolonged material is fixed, where the holding device comprises at least two receivers (4) arranged in a longitudinal direction of the prolonged material with a distance from each other, and the induction unit is displaceable in the longitudinal direction relative to the prolonged material during the heat treatment. The receivers are arranged on a plate (3), and the prolonged material is supported using the gravitational force, and fixed at least in a direction running parallel to the plate, where the receivers are displaceable to pass through the induction unit. An independent claim is also included for heat treating the prolonged material by the device, comprising: loading the prolonged material into the receivers of a receiving device; carrying out relative movement of the induction unit in the longitudinal direction of the prolonged material; displacing the receivers, so that the induction unit passes through the prolonged material in the longitudinal direction, where the receivers are temporally rotated and/or lowered before reaching the induction unit to the receivers; and moving back the receivers in their original position after passing through the induction unit.
