<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress abnormal combustion in setting high compression ratio by suppressing effect on the combustion caused by the contraction error of combustion chamber volumes of respective cylinders by adjusting the combustion chamber volumes of the respective cylinders to target volumes. <P>SOLUTION: The combustion chamber volume adjusting method of a multi-cylinder engine having cylinder heads with concave parts 2 forming parts of the combustion chambers and a mating face 3 with cylinder block for respective cylinders and in which the plurality of cylinders are arranged in a row has a casting step of casting a cylinder head raw material having planar reference faces 10 in the top parts of the respective concave parts 2 of the cylinder heads, a mating face machining step cutting to form the mating faces 3 with the cylinder blocks in the cylinder head raw material, a measuring step of measuring height direction distances from the mating faces 3 of the cylinder head to the reference faces 10 for the respective cylinders, and adjusting machining step of adjusting the machining cutting margins of the cut and machined parts 21 of the concave part 2 surfaces based on the measured height direction distances. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
