Disclosed is the use of 2(S),4(S),5(S),7(S)-N-(3-amino-2,2-d imethyl-3-oxopropyl)-2,7-di(1-methylethyl )-4-hydroxy-5-am ino-8-[4-me thoxy-3-(3-methoxypropoxy)phenyl)-octanamide, also known as aliskiren, in monotherapy for preventing, delaying progression or treating type 2 diabetes and metabolic disorder (syndrome X).
