Provided is a process by which high-molecular compounds having cyano groups can be produced in enhanced yields. The process comprises reacting a high-molecular compound having structural units represented by formula (I) with a compound represented by formula (II) or general formula (III) [wherein Ar3 is a tetravalent organic group] under microwave irradiation to form a high-molecular compound having structural units represented by formula (IV) [wherein A1 and A2 are each independently =C(CN)2 or a group represented by formula (V) [wherein Ar3 is a tetravalent organic group]].
