The invention relates to a novel interface between the sheath (2) and the stack of pellets (5) in a nuclear fuel rod. According to the invention, an interface joint is inserted between the sheath and the column of fuel pellets over at least the height of said column. Said joint is made from a neutron-transparent material and takes the form of a highly heat-conductive structure (3) with open porosity, designed such that it can deform by compression along the thickness thereof.
