<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a recordable region of a plate-like recording material. <P>SOLUTION: A recording apparatus detects a recordable region 41b of the plate-like recording material 41 having the recordable region 41b and non-recordable regions 41a, 41c that are different from that of the recordable region 41b, and records the recordable region in the recordable region 41b. The recording apparatus includes: a light source 30 for illuminating the recording material 41 with light; and an optical sensor 18 for detecting light strength passing through the recording material 41 emitted from the light source 30.
