An extendable support apparatus (200) for supporting an endless conveyor belt comprises an extendable frame (201), and a rest (220) for supporting the conveyor belt relative to the frame (201). The apparatus (200) is able to be extended and retracted by respectively extending and retracting the frame (201) while the conveyor belt circulates relative to the apparatus (200) and while the conveyor belt is supported by the rest (220). The extendable frame (201) is supported by a base frame (208) and the extendable frame (201) is constructed so that it may be sequentially extended or retracted.
