PURPOSE: A method for preparing silica containing η-alumina to be used as a catalyst for synthesizing dimethyl ether, the η-alumina prepared by the same, and a method for preparing the dimethyl ether using the catalyst are provided to reduce side reactions such as the generation of hydrocarbon and to maintain superior reactivity and stability. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing silica containing η-alumina used as a catalyst for synthesizing dimethyl ether includes the following: Aluminium tri-sec butoxide is introduced into water in order to prepare a mixed solution. The mixed solution is aged to eliminate a mother liquid through a centrifugal process. A gel without the mother liquid is obtained. A washing process and a drying process are implemented. A resultant is plasticized. Silica of 0.05 to 10 wt% is coated on the plasticized product.
