- 16 Abstract A device to process and/or transport flat articles (2), like documents inserted into envelopes and/or letters, samples, cards or the like, has a conveying path formed by a conveying device (3) having conveying rollers (5, 6, 7), said conveying path constructed at one end by a separating means (9) to be charged with articles (2) for their individual processing, and is characterised by a separating organ (9), that is constructed by an engaging device (11) acting by friction on the underside of an article (2), positioned above it displaced downstream and holding back excess articles (2', 2") and by a drive roller (6) extending transversely to the direction of transport and mounted about a horizontal axis of rotation.
