<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection apparatus that shortens the sensing time between a lateral collision and an inflator actuation. <P>SOLUTION: The occupant protection apparatus 10 includes: an impact beam 20 provided inside a side door 11; an inflator 30 provided on the inner side of the vehicle width direction of the impact beam 20 inside a pillar 60 and jetting a gas by being pushed by the impact beam 20 on the occurrence of a vehicle lateral collision; and a side air bag 50 provided in a pillar garnish 63 and deployed in the vehicle longitudinal direction by being supplied with a gas from the inflator 30. Since the inflator 30 actuates mechanically through being pushed by the impact beam 20, the inflator 30 actuates without a lateral collision sensor and an ECU, thereby shortening the sensing time in a lateral collision. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
