The device (10) has a prismatic accommodator (12), for accommodating an object to be determined, and an illumination source for illuminating the object. A camera module (30) is arranged on a side of the device, which lies opposite to the source. The accommodator is formed by side surfaces (14) that are connected to each other under an angle. One of the side surfaces is designed to be partially transparent and the other side surface includes a reflection cover. Geometrical data of the object is stored in an electronic storage medium (42) of a computing unit (36) i.e. mobile computer.
