Provided is a method that produces a temperature responsive sheet that is derived from an organism, has extremely low toxicity and exhibits reversible properties. Said properties are used to recover sheets of cultured cells intact. Provided is a temperature responsive sheet formed from a chemically modified water-soluble elastin obtained by the N-acylation of at least some of the first amines and the second amines in the molecule of a high molecular weight water-soluble elastin, and the coupling of some or all of the carboxyl groups in said molecule with the alkyl ether of an amino acid. Also provided is a production method for a cell sheet that is characterised by: the manufacture of a film that forms a scaffold for animal cells on the temperature responsive sheet; the culturing of specific cells on the film and manufacture of a cell sheet; and the separation of the cell sheet and the temperature responsive sheet, which is formed from the chemically modified water-soluble elastin, at a temperature at or below the cell culturing temperature.
