A battery capacity display for a power tool includes a first battery charge indicator in the battery pack and a second battery charge indicator in the tool body, with means for optical communication between the two indicators. The battery pack contains a first circuit for calculating battery capacity and a first display 13 for indicating state of charge. An optical transmitter such as an infrared transmitter transmits the state of charge to an optical receiver in the tool body. A second display 14 displays the battery capacity on the tool body. Both displays may be coloured LEDs. The means of transmitting the battery information from the battery pack to the tool may be optical fibre light guides 36c, 37c with cooperating interfaces 36a, 37a at the junction between the battery pack and tool body. |
