A method for performing a user instruction and a terminal device are provided by the embodiments of the present invention, wherein the method includes the steps: recognizing a special text which includes a phone number and/or a name in the received short message (101); displaying a widget relating to the special text (102); receiving a function trigger signal input by the user based on said widget, and displaying a function operation interface (103); receiving a function instruction input by the user based on said function operation interface, and performing the operation corresponding to said function instruction (104). The embodiments of the present invention display the widget relating to the special text after recognizing the special text in the short message, display the function operation interface after the user clicks the widget, and perform the corresponding operation after the user clicks anyone of the function operation interfaces. The embodiments of the present invention simplify the operation steps of the user, improve the convenience of the contact operation, and optimize the user experience.
