A method and device for automatic gain adjustment in a wireless receiver are provided, which is related to communication technology field and can guarantee the unsaturation of radio frequency devices, analog devices and each node of a digital domain and adjust the power level of useful signals to a certain level. The method and device obtain the gain of analog domain auto gain control (AAGC) by subtracting the total power of signals in an air interface from a first predetermined target power(101), and then obtain the gain of digital domain auto gain control (DAGC) by subtracting a second target power from the power of interference signals in a digital baseband(102). The solution of the method and device can not only be applied to a long term evolution (LTE) system, but also be extended to other wireless communication system using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology, for example, WiMax etc.
