<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal processing apparatus which excellently processes an image signal for satisfactorily expressing the tone of an image. <P>SOLUTION: The video signal processing apparatus of this embodiment comprises gain control means and gradation smoothing control means. The gain control means controls a gain for correcting the image signal.
