<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device and a manufacturing method thereof; the device having an ensured degree of freedom in moving a bendable wiring board (flexible wiring board) used for connection of optical elements such as a PDIC. <P>SOLUTION: A PDIC 50 of an optical pickup device 10 is electrically connected to a conductive pattern provided for a surface of a circuit board 46 via a flexible wiring board 38. A part of a housing 12 that is in contact with the flexible wiring board 38 is provided with a projection 42. This reduces the area where the flexible wiring board 38 and the housing 12 are in contact with each other, thereby reducing the frictional resistance due to their contact.
