The coating (14) has a seam sealing material for sealing a welded joint that is provided with a surface (12) of a component (10) of a motor vehicle i.e. passenger car, for formation of a set of ovals (16) that is arranged adjacent to each other. The ovals are arranged tangentially next to each other or spaced apart from each other, where the ovals are circular in shape. The ovals are elevated from the surface of the component of the motor vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for providing a protective coating to a component of a motor vehicle.
