There is provided a method, apparatus and computer program for measuring one or more statistics/measures of a swimmer during a swimming session. One or more axes of acceleration of a swimmer are measured. One or more axes of rotation of the swimmer are measured.. The axes of acceleration are processed to determine the orientation of the swimmer's body, and the orientation of the swimmer's body is used to determine a swim start event. After the swim start event is determined, the axes of acceleration and axes of orientation are processed to determine the statistics.
