The method involves arranging carbonate block between a surface and a geological tank, and recording electric signal between electrodes implanted in the carbonate block. Variation of carbon dioxide flow passing through the block is deduced from the variation of an electric signal. Variation of carbon dioxide flow is detected due to leakage outside the tank. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring integrity of carbon dioxide in a geological tank in a petroleum medium with a carbonate porous block that is chosen from calcite or carbonates e.g. dolomite, aragonite, vaterite and magnesite.
