<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drying apparatus and a drying method for radioactive waste in which waste disposal can be performed within a size of a disposal container even with a large amount of waste of high radioactivity. <P>SOLUTION: A radioactive waste drying apparatus 10 is provided with a drying chamber 13 having a storage part 11 for storing radioactive waste 1 and a lid part 12 for sealing airtight the storage part 11 by covering a storage port of the storage part 11; a hot wind generating means 14 for flowing a gas into the drying chamber 13 through a piping 21 that is connected with the drying chamber 13, while exhausting a gas in the drying chamber 13 through a piping 22 that is connected with the drying chamber 13; and a vacuum pump 15 for depressurizing the drying chamber 13 through a piping 23 that is connected with the drying chamber 13.
