<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish the redundancy and failure resistivity which is more excellent than that of an RAID level 6 without using any parity. <P>SOLUTION: This device comprises: a logically adjacent group of at least three drives; a first loop; a second loop; and a compression/decompression circuit. Each of those drives has: a first area (i) configured such that compressed data of the previous drive are stored; a second area (ii) configured such that non-compressed data of the drive are stored; and a third area (iii) configured such that compressed data of the next drive are stored. The first loop is connected to the next drive in the logically adjacent group. The second loop is connected to the previous drive of the logically adjacent group.
